Travel Nevada: Get A Little Out There

/ About the project

This campaign for Travel Nevada required seamless visual continuity between the physical production and the digital edit. I was responsible for the title design, motion language, and map systems for the "Great Basin Highway" series. Using the brand’s established visual assets and a map prop used on-camera, I engineered a motion package delivered in both 16:9 and 9:16 to support a wide-reaching social and broadcast campaign.

Translating Brand Identity into Wayfinding

I developed a title system for Travel Nevada that successfully translated their static brand guidelines into a functional, digital-first motion language. By focusing on structural clarity and technical data integration, I ensured the typography served as an authoritative guide for the viewer throughout the "Great Basin Highway" journey.

  • Signature Brand Animation: I choreographed the animated title card and logo sequence that opens the piece, establishing a rhythmic and energetic "motion signature" that set the tone for the entire campaign.

  • Geographic Metadata Integration: Beyond location names, I integrated precise GPS coordinate strings into the typographic hierarchy. This added a layer of "Authoritative Utility" to the aesthetic, grounding the viewer in the physical reality of the journey.

  • Environment-Aware Compositing: The titles were designed for maximum legibility across diverse, high-contrast outdoor footage. By using a carefully curated color palette of muted mints and sun-baked yellows, the typography remained stable and clear in both dark interiors and bright desert landscapes.

  • Modular Asset Delivery: I engineered these titles as a flexible toolkit for the editorial team. The system allowed for rapid updates to location names and coordinates while maintaining the exact tracking, leading, and brand-compliant styling established in the design phase.

Engineering the "Living" Map

Deconstructing Physical Assets for Post-Production

To maintain continuity with the physical prop held by the characters on-screen, I performed a technical teardown of the original vector map assets.

  • Asset Deconstruction: I pulled the approved handmade-style vector apart, organizing hundreds of elements into a layered After Effects project to allow for independent animation of paths and icons.

  • Modular Alpha Delivery: The map was engineered with the edit in mind; I delivered the animated journey segments on alpha channels so the editors could treat them as flexible graphical assets.

  • Wayfinding Logic: The map served as the narrative anchor, explaining the overall journey and providing a visual transition when moving from location to location.

Efficiency in the Post-Production Pipeline

The final graphics package was designed to be as "plug-and-play" as possible for the editorial team, ensuring that the brand’s playful energy was maintained across every deliverable.

  • Advanced Delivery Specs: All map and title assets were delivered as high-resolution, alpha-channel renders, allowing editors to composite them directly into the timeline with zero technical friction.

  • Responsive Multi-Format Support: Every asset was optimized for both 16:9 and 9:16 aspect ratios, providing a consistent navigation experience across broadcast TV and social feeds.

  • Streamlined Approval Process: Due to the clear organization of the initial motion rigs and strict adherence to brand guidelines, the entire package was delivered ahead of schedule.

  • Minimal Revision Cycle: The project was approved with almost no technical or creative revisions, proving the effectiveness of a "production-first" design approach.
